Ирвинг Хоу (англ. Irving Howe; 11 июня 1920 — 5 мая 1993) — американский литературный критик, видный политический деятель «Демократических социалистов Америки».

Биография

Родился в Бронксе (Нью-Йорк) в семье еврейских иммигрантов из Бессарабии — Нетти (ур. Гольдман) и Давида Горенштейнов, которые держали продуктовый магазин, разорившийся во времена Великой депрессии.

В 1940 году окончил Городской колледж Нью-Йорка. В школе он постоянно участвовал в спорах по поводу значения социализма, сталинизма, фашизма и иудаизма. В политических целях летом 1940 года сменил фамилию на Хоу.

Во время Второй мировой войны служил в армии США.

Политические взгляды
